Warli Paintings - Artforms of Maharashtra
The term Warli refers to the tribal population of Maharashtra. They are found to live in the northern outskirts of Mumbai
who had the natural talent of creating timeless paintings on walls. The Warli paintings are acclaimed to be at par with Madhubani paintings of Bihar. The paintings are so unique that almost all of them are white in color with occasional red and yellow dots included in between.
The pattern of all these paintings depict the normal day to day life of a common Warli tribal society. The commonly found animals are also
illustrated in these paintings. The material used for paintings are usually made from rice powder. The paintings are dating back to 10th century, and brought to the notice of outside world during the early 17th century, which deserves
a visit during your visit to Mumbai.
