Eturnagaram wild life sanctuary is one among the oldest wild life sanctuaries in Telangana. This verdant protected forest area is located at the distance of 110 km from Warangal. Been declared as the wild life sanctuary by the Government of Hyderabad in the year 1953, this sanctuary serves as a safe haven for millions of flora and fauna.

sanctuary sprawls across an area of 812 Km sq. The whole sanctuary is verdant, lush and dotted with lots of steeps and gentle slopes. The existence of tree fossils in this sanctuary makes this historically important and a prominent research area in India.

Speciality

Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary boats many special features. This sanctuary is considered as one among those rare eco-regions around the globe that has various embryonic species of ephemeral elements. Unlike other sanctuaries Eturnagaram has an uneven land formation. The land is steep in some places, shallow in other and hilly in the rest. It is the natural formation that makes it hard to trek through this wild life sanctuary.

It would be apt to say Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary as the Mother Nature’s dwelling place. The area is very picturesque, with the flow of perennial river Dayyam Vagu, the forest is verdant and lush. There are lots of small rivulets and steams intertwined inside the hill.

Flora and fauna

The river Vagu diverge this sanctuary into two parts. One region completely draped in green, with wild trees and plants. This part of the sanctuary is a home to millions of reptiles including famous Mugger crocodiles and snakes like the Cobra, Python and Krait. The other half is the hilly region where, if we are lucky; we can witness lion, royal Bengal tiger, white tiger, rhinoceros, orangutan and a lot more. Reptiles such as Indian cobra, star tortoises, and giant tortoises.

Best time to visit

To experience the beauty of this sanctuary to the fullest, its best to visit this sanctuary during the months of October to April.

How to reach

This sanctuary is located at the distance of 110 km from Warangal and around 250 km from Hyderabad.

 By Air - The nearest airport to Warangal is Hyderabad international airport which is at the distance of approximately 140 kms. Being one of the major cities in India Hyderabad Airport is well connected to all places with in India and outside the country. There are regular flight to cities like Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.

 By Rail - Warangal has its own railhead that also connects Chennai and New Delhi. It is well linked with other major Indian cities. The trains are frequent and available in all the categories, namely super-fast, express and passenger.

 By Bus - Warangal has good frequency of busses that connects all major parts of India. For Hyderabad there is surplus buses that runs for every five minutes.
