The Kakatiya Festival is celebrated all across the state of Telangana to exhibit the historical significance and the cultural splendidness of Warangal, a prominent city in Telangana. This cultural carnival which is celebrated for three days is a golden opportunity for the present generation of the state to know the inside out of the ancient Kakatiya Dynasty.

Being the descendants of Karikala Chola King of Durjaya clan with Warangal as their capital, the rule of the Kakatiya Dynasty is said to be the most promising era in the history of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. For over 300 years, the Kakatiya Dynasty ruled Warangal and their contribution to the development and welfare of arts and culture of the state is remarkable. So, to bring into limelight the glorious culture of Kakatiya Dynasty and its historic legacy, the Kakatiya Festival is organized every year which features ancient traditional dance performances, musical programmes, art exhibitions, film festivals, and plays. Warangal, Hyderabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, and Mahbubnagar forms the main venue for this cultural fiesta. The Kakatiya Festival also provides a platform for poets to exhibit their talents. Dance competitions, food festivals, and the seminar on history are some of the highlighting events of Kakatiya Festival that draws the attention of many art lovers, foodies and historians to this festival. The photo exhibitions showcasing the cultural and political achievements of the Kakatiya rule is noteworthy. The Kakatiya Festival 2012-13 was so momentous that the 800th year of historic Ramappa Temple construction and 750th year of the coronation of Rani Rudrama Devi of the Kakatiya regime were acknowledged during the event.
