Statue of Dupleix Monuments
The statue of Dupleix is a historical monument and is housed at the Children’s park in Puducherry. This statue was installed here in the year 1870 by the French government.
Joseph Francois Dupleix was the then Governor of Pondicherry and the town prospered under him. He was also the governor general of the French establishment in India. He trained troops and infantrymen. Under one of those infantrymen was the greatest warrior and king of Mysore, Hyder Ali. Dupleix was known in history to have invested a lot of his private possessions to aid for his public reforms.
Joseph Dupleix was an integral part in the French settlement of India especially in Pondicherry. The present statue of Dupleix in Pondicherry was erected in the year 1870 after the French government realized his efforts and work in the Indian settlement. Two statues were erected in his honor, one in Pondicherry and the other which is situated in France.
