The Kargil War that happened between the armed forces of India and Pakistan, took place in the year of 1999. Thhe war also known as Kargil conflict took place along the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. Pakistan soldiers dressed as Kashmiri militants positioned themselves into the Indian side of the Line of Control which was discovered by the Indian government. This triggered the Kargil war.

The war took place in the town of Kargil which is located into the Indian side of the Line of Control and continued for two months. After a defeat in Kargil, the Pakistani troops withdrew from India. Many Indian soldiers and Pakistani soldiers lost their lives fighting during the war. A memorial in honor of the Kargil war martyrs was erected in Puducherry, India. It is situated along the beach and is made out of black granite stones. This monument was built by the Indian army as a commemoration to the 527 lives lost during the war.
