Parambikulam Wild Life Sanctuary - Wildlife in Kerala

Parambikulam Wild View or the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Palakkad district, huddled between the Nelliyampathy ranges of Kerala and Annamalai Hills of Tamil Nadu. Even though it is a part of Kerala state, it can be accessed only through Pollachi in Tamil Nadu. It has the status of being the first ever scientifically managed teak plantation in the world.

Parambikulam Wild Life Sanctuary

The Kannimara teak tree, which is the oldest and tallest teak trees in the world is located here and is believed to be over 350-years-old.

This sanctuary is a marshy land with scattered patches of grassland and is thickly forested with sandalwood, rosewood, teak and stands of bamboo.

In 2009, the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as a Tiger Reserve to protect the overall ecosystem. This entire region of Parambikulam along with the Western Ghats mountain range and Anamalai Hills are currently under consideration for recognition as a heritage site by UNESCO World Heritage Site.
