A stone monument was installed by the government of Kerala that commemorates the "landing" of  Vasco da Gama at the Kappad Beach with the inscription, 'Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappa Kadavu, in the year 1498'.

Kappad Beach was earlier known as the Kappa Kadavu beach. This gorgeous beach with the hypnotizing views of the blue sea with golden sandy shores lined with coconut trees attracts a lot of honeymooners, beach bums and adventure lovers.
