Karnataka Rajyotsava Festival

Karnataka Rajyotsava Festival is also known as the Karnataka Formation day and celebrated on November 1st of every year. It is a public holiday and celebrated to remember the merge of all Kannada speaking region of India in 1956.

Rajyotsava means “State Festival”. Before, the whole of the Kannada speaking regions was known as Mysore. As the northern parts didn’t have a liking to the name, “Karnataka” was born in 1973.

The solid 1000-year-old history of Kannada is one among the 40 most spoken languages of India. The yellow and red color of the state flag gets a display throughout Karnataka, leading to a colorful celebration. The state government announces rewards to those who have contributed to the welfare of Karnataka.

Irrespective of religion, every single person in the state celebrates this festival like their own. A selfless festival that unites the diverse citizens of the Kannada state. A secular holiday reassuring the secular character of India. People add elements to the festival wearing red and yellow. Music, dance, and art extend the celebration of the merge of North Karnataka, Old Mysore, and Malnad (Canara).

“Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Tanujate” is the Karnataka anthem. The chantings of unity reverberate the whole of Karnataka on November 1. From Autorickshaws, motorbikes, and party offices, to government offices, the flag of Karnataka is hoisted to remember the brilliant decision of the majestic unification. Multihued Tableaux carry the picture of Goddess Bhuvanehswari surmounted on a bedecked vehicle.

History of the Union

Aluru Venkat Rao dreamt of a unified Kannada region in 1905 with Karnataka Ekkikarna (Unification of Karnataka) movement. But it was under Devaraj Arasi this remarkable decision of unifying Karnataka happened.

Month of Celebration

Karnataka bathes in festival color during November 1 of every year and the celebration often extends to Mumbai, New Delhi, Gurgaon, and Chennai. Since the Kannada population is denser in these regions too.
