Trichy (Tiruchirappalli) City Information

Trichy:

This is about the city information we have been sending. I hope you have been finding all our city information details useful in planning your clients’ trip.

We now have come up with details of Trichy city that lost its glory in the recent years due to shortage of good quality hotels, lack of infrastructure etc., but situation is changing as Trichy city is booming right now through its infrastructure and positive development in the last few years. Earlier we used to give 2 nights’ stay in Trichy for our guests and Tanjore was covered as an excursion destination. However the situation reversed later. Till date inbound guests prefers to stay in Tanjore and skip Trichy stay as they want to cover sightseeing as part of a day excursion.

Thanks to the state administration as the situation is changing to a very positive side for Trichy. The city has been progressing well in terms of infrastructural development, safety and security in the last 3 years as part of its ‘smart city’ initiative.

Last month, our Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the new Integrated passenger terminal of Trichy International Airport. Work has already started and is expected to complete by 2021. This terminal, once completed, is expected to handle more than 3 million passengers per annum. As you know, this infrastructural growth of the city would attract more tourists to its side and so more Air connections in the due course that would make Trichy to grow in multitude in the coming days.

Likewise, there are lot of good hotels that have come up in Trichy city recently. The most recent one is Hotel Blossoms – a 4 star hotel with excellent quality rooms, spacious in nature & facilities offered are of definitely value for money. The roof-top swimming pool here is considered as the best pool in the city. A detailed review of this hotel is available below.

Very soon Four Points by Sheraton group of hotels is also coming up with its property in Trichy. Same way, Westin group is going to launch its property in Trichy soon. I take immense pleasure in letting you know that Taj group of hotels is coming up in Trichy in couple of years, on the airport road. So, with its excellent infrastructure facilities, Trichy will serve as an excellent base to see central Tamilnadu. In couple of years’ time, Trichy would have developed in multi fold in all aspects and will indeed serve as a boon to inbound tourism for sure.

Here are the details about Trichy city. If we have missed anyone in your team, please do share this information with them.

This is the biggest temple in India and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is famously known as “Booloka Vaikuntam” by many, and is one among and the foremost in the 108 Divya Desams. It is situated about 3 kms north of Rock fort and is on an island formed by the rivers Cauvery and Kollidam. The whole temple complex looks more like a self-enclosed city than a place of worship. To reach the inner sanctum sanctorum, where Swamy Ranganatha can be seen lying on the bed of serpent called as ‘Seshasayana’, one must cross seven inner Gopurams.

Brahmapureeswarar temple:This is the only Brahma temple in South India, located 20 kms away from Trichy city. Interestingly, this temple is very busy now due to elections as every election candidate visits this temple without fail along with their horoscope to seek blessings of Lord Brahma, before filing their nominations. This has been a regular and long term practice among politicians. Many believe that one’s fate completely changes if he/she visits this temple.

This temple has another speciality as one can find the Jeeva Samadhi of Maharishi Pathanjali, who is the Founder of Yoga, adjacent to the Shrine of Lord Brahma.

This Brahmapureeswarar temple at Thirupattur, Trichy district is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma. The temple is said to be 3000 years old. According to legend, Lord Brahma was beaming with pride as the creator of the universe. This sense of pride provoked Lord Shiva, who destroyed his 5th head and cursed Lord Brahma to lose all his powers of creation. To relieve himself of this curse, Lord Brahma started out on a pilgrimage of Lord Shiva Temples. During the course of his pilgrimage, Lord Brahma also visited this temple and installed 12 different lingams around Brahmapureeswarar and worshipped Lord Shiva here for a considerable time. It is said that Lord Brahma prayed to Lord Shiva in the form of Shotasalinga here at the temple. Lord Shiva was pleased with him and blessed him back with all his powers. It is also said that the Goddess Parvati gave back all the sheen and glory back to Lord Brahma in this temple. So, she is called as Brahma Sampath Gowri. There is also a legend that Lord Brahma was cursed that he won’t have any individual shrines anywhere. But, as Lord Shiva was pleased with his prayers, he blessed him to have an individual shrine only at this temple. So, one can see Lord Brahma sitting tall in an individual shrine and bless whoever comes to the temple.

    Local festivals in Trichy:

Car Festivals : As done in all the Hindu Temples, the Car Festival is celebrated in the temples of Rock Fort, Tiruvanaikoil and Srirangam in a very pomp manner. At Sri Rangam temple, Panguni Car festival is celebrated on Friday, the 22nd March 2019. This is one of the important annual car festivals celebrated at Sri Rangam temple, coinciding with the Panguni Uthiram. As far as festivals in South India are concerned, another important annual festivals of Sri Rangam temple is this Chithirai Car Festival. This Car festival is celebrated during the Tamil month Chithirai, on Friday the 3rd May 2019. Large number of devotees are expected to visit the place to worship and witness the event. Thousands of pilgrims participate in the procession of the chariots carrying the deities going around the streets and the temples.

On both days, until the temple car reaches the temple, the temple will remain closed. So please plan your clients’ temple visit accordingly on these days.

Opening of Paradise Door at Sri Rangam Temple (Vaikunta Ekadesi): This is one of the most important Ekadasis. This falls on the eleventh day of every lunar fortnight in traditional Hindu calendar. This festival is being celebrated for 20 long days. First 10 days are being celebrated during the day and next 10 days are being celebrated during the night time. Clients who stay at Trichy can witness this celebration during the day and night respectively as it will be interesting for the clients to watch the proceedings.

Vaikunta Ekadesi festival is more elaborately celebrated by Vaishnavites. This is celebrated with great importance in Tirupati Balaji Temple & Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple. Apart from these temples, all the temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his incarnations in South India celebrate Vaikunta Ekadesi. The most important ritual on the day in temples is the opening of the Paradise door (Paramapadha Vasal) in Vishnu Temples. This door is only opened on the Vaikunta Ekadesi day and devotees can pass through it. Symbolically the door leads to the Vaikunta - abode of Lord Vishnu.

Clients can visit and walk through the paradise door, if they wish. But they need to wait and go only in the queue which might take 2 hours’ time. Sanctum will be closed on Vaikunta Ekadesi day. Clients can have a great experience witnessing the celebration & the colorful crowd that visits the temple to take part in the festival.

We expect couple of lakhs people to visit Sri Rangam temple on that day to take part in the celebration. Due to the huge crowd, vehicles will be stopped 1 km away from temple for parking and everyone should walk at least a kilometre to reach the temple.

On Vaikunta Ekadesi day, temple will be extremely crowded. Normally it takes 1 or 2 hours to visit the temple but on the Ekadesi day it would take 6 to 7 hours. Deputed Police force alone will be around 10,000 on the Ekadesi day, so one can imagine the crowd that visits Sri Rangam temple to take part in celebration. Clients can explore the area near the temple by walk if they wish, as Cars will have to be parked 2 kms away from the temple and no Auto rickshaws are allowed to ply. Within the radius of 2 kms from the temple area, none of the vehicles are allowed.
